How to Use a Bodum Pour Over Coffee Maker

Have you Ever Tried a Pour Coffee?

Pour-over coffee is celebrated for its silky texture, intense aroma, and deep taste. Additionally, it’s simple and quick to prepare, which is definitely advantageous when you’re in the desire for an excellent coffee without any fuss.

You need ground beans, hot water, a filter, and a carafe to enjoy pour-over coffee.

What is Pour Over Coffee?

The pour-over coffee method involves pouring hot water through coffee grounds in a filter. In this way, the water drains through the coffee and filter into a carafe or a coffee mug. It is also known as filter coffee or drip coffee.

What makes it different from other coffee is that it is made by hand-pouring the water over the coffee. So, you can also hear another name for it hand brewing or manual brewing.

This technique has been commonly used in Europe since the 1900s.

Why Use The Pour-Over Method?

The pour-over method adds more flavor to the coffee as compared to any other brewing method. That is why it is a popular choice for single origins coffees as it enhances the flavors and aromas.

We all know that excellent filter coffee is clean, clear and consistent. The water is allowed to extract coffee oils and fragrances at its own constant time and pressure. So, all the oil is caught by the filter, and you get a clean cup.

It is an infusion method because it is a little more efficient at extracting coffee soluble than immersion techniques such as the French press.

With the immersion method, the water becomes saturated while the pour overuses a constant supply of fresh water.

Bodum Pour-Over Coffee Maker

All of the pour-over coffee makers feature a fine mesh filter made of stainless steel. The reusable filter eliminates the need for disposable paper filters, which enables the taste not a waste.

It is environmentally friendly than paper and more effective as it doesn’t rob you of the coffee’s essential oils.

If we talk about a carafe, it is made of mouth-blown, heat-resistant glass, giving you superb performance.

It allows the coffee’s full-bodied flavor to take center stage. The wrap-around cuff protects your hands from the hot liquid and is comfortable to hold

How to Use Bodum Pour-Over Coffee Maker

Step 1-Add Coffee

Put the Bodum pour-over coffee maker on a heatproof, non-slip surface. Add fresh ground beans into the cone-shaped filter. It is suggested to use one Bodum scoop or a rounded tablespoon of a lightly roasted, medium grind for a cup. Use a finger to make a small hole in the center of the ground beans.

Step 2-Add Water

Pour 125ml or 4 oz. per cup of water in the kettle and boil it for 30 seconds so that the temperature dips just below the boiling point. You can monitor it by using a food thermometer: 93-97 degrees Celsius is ideal.

Now let’s begin the brewing process by pouring water over the hole you made. Pour it in a circular motion, outwards, then back to the center of the ground beans. Cover the beans with enough water to ensure that they are evenly saturated.

Tip: A gooseneck kettle is the best choice when making a pour-over coffee. As this kettle has a long and thin spout, it gives you more control over the water flow compared to an ordinary kettle.

Step 3-Brew

Pause for 30 seconds. Add the remaining water in stages: pour a third of it over the ground beans, wait for another 30 seconds and then pour the rest. Use a circular pouring motion, as in the previous step. It will allow the coffee to bloom, a process that enhances its taste.

Step 4-Enjoy the Pour Over Coffee

You have to wait for two or three minutes for the water to finish passing through the ground coffee beans. You can see delicious, freshly brewed coffee steadily filling the carafe you placed beneath the filter.

The medium grind ensures that extraction occurs at the optimum rate, neither too quickly nor too slowly, leading to the best flavor. Remove the filter, add the convenient, long-handled lid to the carafe and pour out your coffee through the lid’s opening. Serve and enjoy!
